Movie Reviews
I still cannot believe how this movie get such great reviews. I would, in best case, categorize it as mediocre. The only thumbs up is for Alan Alda, which brings some depth to the characters.
To put it straight: Even though you might expect certain clichés in a romantic drama like this, - this is just too flat and simplified a story. The characters have no real depth and the plot is too predictable.
In a romantic drama you can expect the main premise to be upheld: Love conquers all. This holds true for this movie as well. But the road to victory is, in this movie, utterly uninteresting. The problems facing both couples in the movie, are dealt with in a very superficial way. You might say that the problems are not unfolded or depicted in a serious way. And the solution therefore also becomes flat and one-dimensional.
As superficial entertainment, this movie brings you what you expect. Curl up with your girlfriend on a Friday night and eat some ice cream while watching. But do not expect to be emotionally moved or surprised. Unless the ice cream does it for you.
